The Longmen Grottoes, located on the banks of the Longmen Mountains and Xiangshan Mountains along the banks of the Luoyang-Yi River, are carved on the occasion of the relocation of the Xiaowen Emperor in the Northern Wei Dynasty to Luoyang (493 AD).
